What Is It? What Will You Do?
Our junior firefighter program is a youth program (typically ages 10-16) that lets teens learn about fire rescue and EMS in a safe, supervised way, developing leadership, teamwork, and technical skills while helping our department with non-emergency tasks and exploring future career(s).
This program offers hands-on training, ride-along opportunities, and mentorship, serving as a vital recruitment tool for future firefighters with CSVFC and engaging our local youth in community service.
What you'll do:
Training: Learn firefighting skills (hose handling, ladder techniques), equipment use, fire science, and EMT basics.
Support: Assist with station duties, community events, fundraising, and non-emergency support.
Experience: Participate in ride-alongs (limited), observe emergency scenes, and gain firsthand experience.
Benefits for teens:
Develop leadership, self-confidence, and teamwork.
Explore potential careers in emergency services.
Build lifelong friendships and community connections.
Gain valuable life skills and a strong sense of duty.
Benefits for the community & fire department:
Recruits future volunteer or career firefighters.
Provides extra help for non-emergency tasks.
Fosters youth engagement in public safety.
Our Mission
The mission of our Junior Firefighter Program is to be a stepping stone into CSVFC by developing young adults ready to respond to emergencies as probationary members when they turn 16 years of age.
The youth of our community can grow up in and around our firehouse, be readily trained by our fire and rescue service members, and have hands-on experience while providing positive interaction with the senior members of the organization, learning the ins and outs of our company.
This program will prepare you to pass the required training necessary to become a certified firefighter and a life-saving member of our community when your time comes.
Due to the hands-on experience and training, their transition from junior firefighter to certified firefighter with CSVFC should be seamless.
