It’s a direct way to give back and foster a deep connection to your local community, embodying the spirit of "neighbors helping neighbors".
Sense of purpose and accomplishment:
Our volunteer fire crew can always be heard talking about past calls for service, and you can hear in their voices that they have a significant sense of achievement from controlling a major fire, assisting at a serious crash, or responding to other emergencies.
Our volunteer behind-the-scenes crew is always discussing how well the carnival, bingo, or other fundraising events went and already planning or preparing for the next.
A "second family":
The high-pressure environment or shared sense of purpose builds strong bonds and lifelong friendships (a "brotherhood" or "sisterhood") that extend beyond the station. Our volunteers live in the area and have lifelong friendships that have built the friendly atmosphere around our department.
